Is it a good idea to study in China?
Hello!
I am Clara and I have indeed studied in China. I was an exchange student in Ningbo on University of Nottingham Ningbo and it was an amazing experience. I will share some of my thoughts below so hopefully I can encourage other students to choose China as its next destiny
My experience in China was very nice due to the different things. The first one being the University. I believe that if you want to do an exchange course in China, you should get well informed on your host school. In my case, I could have not choosen better. Nottingham took care of us always, providing Introduction groups on the first weeks to instruct us in how life worked inside the campus and outside. It also organized many activities and trips, encouraging students to travel and also meet other students. If there was any problem, my university took care of it. Even when I came back to Spain and had to do classes online, they still emailed regularly and asked about our situation
Secondly, China is not only a beautiful country, it also has nice locals. Traveling or moving around a unknown city with a language that you don’t speak can be very stressful. However, chinese people are always kind and ready to help, even if you don’t ask for it. They will make sure that you are safe and have all you need. Plus, they tend to get very excited when they spot foregneirs so if you want to practice mandarin, it is the perfect occasion. They are always interested on where you are from and what you do in China, so you can easily practice some of the basics with them. And they tend to be very sincere so if you have a bad pronunciation they will certainly correct it. There is no better place to learn chinese than talking with random locals
And last but not least, be ready to open a whole new world technologically speaking. China is a very modern city and will not hesitate in showing you how smart they can make things work out. I found myself absolutely astonished by usual things that I had never thought of before. Also, it is the land for fashion and you will be able to purchase fake brands and real brand of clothing as well as see the latest trends walking down the street. Everything tends to be cheaper, especially food and transport so your spends will be less than in your home country, having extra cash to travel around.
